Building the perfect mixed grill platter

A good mixed grill platter comes down to variety, balance and enough sides to hold it all together. Here is how our own platters are built, so you can pick the right size for your table.

Ottoman Mix

The smallest of our sharing platters: lamb shish, chicken shish and Adana kebab, together with rice or bulgur, salad, bread, sauce and grilled vegetables. A good option for two people who want a taste of a few different cuts without a full feast.

Ottoman Special Platter

A step up in size and built for 2 to 3 people: lamb shish, chicken shish, Adana kebab and mixed doner, again with rice, salad, bread, sauce and grilled vegetables. More meat and more variety in the same format as the Ottoman Mix.

Grilled Chicken Platter

For anyone who wants an all-chicken spread: chicken shish, chicken Adana, chicken wings and chicken doner, served with rice or bulgur, salad, bread, sauce and grilled vegetables, also suitable for 2 to 3 people.

Ottoman Feast Platter

The largest platter on the menu, built for a table of 4 to 6: lamb and chicken shish, lamb and chicken Adana kebab, chicken wings, lamb chops, lamb ribs and mixed doner, with rice or bulgur, salad, sauce, grilled vegetables and four meze on the side. One order, everyone at the table fed.

A few tips for building your own at home

  • Mix cuts, not just meats: a shish, a kofte-style Adana and something on the bone (like ribs or wings) gives every bite a different texture.
  • Do not skip the grilled vegetables and a bit of acidity: charred onions, tomatoes and a squeeze of lemon cut through the richness of the meat.
  • Warm bread and a couple of mezze on the side turn a plate of grilled meat into a proper spread.
  • Cook in batches by thickness, not all at once: thin cuts like shish come off the grill well before something as thick as a lamb chop, so timing them separately keeps everything at its best rather than everything arriving lukewarm together.

How to pick the right size

As a rough guide, the Ottoman Mix suits two people who want a taste of a few cuts without over-ordering, the Special Platter and Grilled Chicken Platter both stretch comfortably to three, and the Feast Platter is genuinely built for a full table of four to six rather than a smaller group with leftovers in mind. If your group sits between two sizes, it is usually better to size up a platter than to add a second smaller one, since the extra sides and grilled vegetables scale with it.

Whichever size suits your table, every platter comes off the same charcoal grill, halal throughout, ready for dine-in or collection at 117 Wood Street.
